What to Look for in a Plumbing, Cooling, Heating and Solar Contractor In Connecticut

Finding a reliable and trustworthy plumbing, cooling, heating and solar contractor in Connecticut can be quite a dilemma.  With so many contractor’s out there to choose from, the task can seem daunting and overwhelming finding a quality one. To help assist with your search, we at R.J Riquier have compiled a list of qualities to look for when searching for a superior plumbing, cooling, heating and solar contractor.

  • Parts and Labor Warranty: The equipment purchased from HVAC manufacturers come with  standard warranties, but an above average  plumbing and heating contractor will include a parts and labor warranty in addition to the one provided from the manufacturer. Providing this additional warranty not only shows the confidence the contractor has in their work but also gives you the consumer more peace of mind. A contractor that provides a personal warranty is more confidante of not only the work and product but also wants to build personal rapport with you, the consumer.
  • 24/7 Emergency Support: Issues can arise anytime, day or night. Equipment doesn’t check your personal schedule first before deciding to break down that is why it is important to find a contractor that is available 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Having a contractor that provides 24/7 emergency support  gives you the assurance that you will get the service you need when you need it and also shows that the contractor is committed to providing superior customer service.
  • Licensed and Credentials:  Probable the most important and first thing you should check on when looking at contractors. Anyone can proclaim they can install that kitchen sink or fix that heater, but ONLY professionals in Connecticut have a state contractor’s license. Per Connecticut State law contractor’s must have a license , and must be able to provide it upon request to the customer.  An easy way to check if the contractor has a license is to go to their website for and see if they have a license number on display, you may also ask the contractor for their license number. After obtaining the license number you can go to the Connecticut State website to validate the license number provided. The link is provided here:  https://www.elicense.ct.gov/Lookup/LicenseLookup.aspx. Additional credentials to look for can include word of mouth recommendations, online reviews, and services such as Angie’s List. Even though having a licensed contractor is a must these additional credential look-up’s will give you a better idea of how this contractor has treated past customers, how good their work maybe and how well they stand up to other licensed professionals in the field.
  • Longevity: A contractor’s license is an assurance of schooling, however education isn’t going to be a guarantee of quality. The time old saying “practice makes perfect” holds true when finding a contractor. Quality craftsmanship is seen with years of experience working hands-on in the field. Look for a contractor with many years of experience.
